Baby Steps for the Meteorologists
Monday, March 9, 2009, 08:38 AM - Forecasts
Michael Reilly (Discovery Channel) writes an article about the strength of hurricanes and the lunar cycle impact. Researcher sees a trend in Atlantic storms; mixing tides could be factor. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29530066/ for the rest of this incredible story!
The results of the researchers may change the way we look at weather. The story basically says that the Moon could influence the weather. I can't help but be impressed with the discovery; what a wakeup call for the meteorologists to have discovered that phenomenon. Also in the article that the Moon's spooky influence on earth is legendary but the phenomena attributed to the Moon are almost exclusively superstition. It makes me smile, actually laugh, to see the baby steps the researchers are taking and the incredible CYA sidestepping going on. What do you think?
The article goes on to show an easy way to see if the Moon is really influencing hurricanes. That would be to look at the hurricane data from 1878-1950! A good idea but flawed because of the dates included.
The reality check for the information found between 1878-1950 - before computers and any kind of accurate accumulated data for those years is easy to understand. The researchers results would be fraught with error because of incomplete data from anytime before 1900. Beginning a study with data from 1900 can be chancy.
I will credit the scientists and meteorologists for providing good statistical data for modern times. One excellent location is
here: http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/index.html
In fact, four years ago I performed my own study from this data gathering information on the Moon's influence on hurricane totals north or south of the equator. I wanted to know if the storm totals increased at these times of high declination degrees. I think the results are interesting but not conclusive - there is a tendency for increase but it is not consistent. Keep in mind that we do not have hundreds of years of hurricane data.

If you are interested in more detail, you can examine the spreadsheet on my website http://weathersage.com/resources/index.htm
When there, please click on Hurricanes (Excel spreadsheet).

The objective for my study was to find out if the number of hurricanes increased significantly when the Moon was in high declination degrees. The Moon can reach almost 29 degrees of declination north and south in its cycle. And...the air tides are carried further north and south over the earth when the Moon is in the higher degrees. Air tides mixing - you bet!

Astrometeorologists (I'm one of them) are far beyond baby steps in using the Moon as a weather influence. We have been developing long range forecasts for hundreds of years with the understanding that the Moon controls a good part of our weather. Ourforecasts are not for 5 or 10 days into the future but more like 5 months or 5 years. Don't be fooled when the TV weather person says something like 'and now for your long range forecast, or some say futurecast'. Yet, it's a good thing they are taking baby steps...isn't it?

Voluptuous Venus
Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 08:09 AM - Forecasts
After viewing lots and lots of charts for the next few years I was inspired to write something more interesting about weather conditions. The beautiful planet Venus - she sparkles in the sky like a diamond reminding us of other worldly energy. Venus is with Mars in a very close and personal way this spring. Here is a short story about their attraction to each other. I hope you enjoy reading it.

It begins.... It's been a sublime adventure watching Venus chase Mars in the Aries ingress season charts. She spotted Mars quite some time ago in the relationship and beautiful sign Libra in early September 2008 and she may have taken notice then but continued on her way outpacing him by a sign or two until now, the mating season, up above the equator. Perhaps she is assessing her position and her desires as she begins to slow her advancement by small amounts until she stops March 6th 2009 in Mars' sign Aries, perhaps looks back and thinks about taking a much closer look.
Venus meanders along the path to the sign Pisces, perhaps mesmerized in that sign while she parks herself there for two weeks at 29 degrees. What could be going on with a Venus in Pisces for that length of time? When she comes out of her delusionary, yearning to merge period and regains her fiestiness in Aries, she begins to pursue Mars with a vigorous intent. Does Mars stand still and let himself be caught? Oh, no....Mars in Aries now in late April has more work to do, he is on a quest, a mission to heat up the place and is moving quickly. Venus chases and chases but can't quite get up to his speed. What to do...What to do. Huffing and puffing Venus regains her normal speed after the slowdown in Pisces and puts on her Nike's (tennis shoes) and gains even more strength as she enters her home arena in Taurus to lure Mars, now in the same sign. into a Taurean conjoining finally! in June at the powerful 15 degrees of fixed signs.

Is Venus pregnant with much rain for northern summertime? Does this tale have anything to do with headline news or even our own private lives? By the way, the pair are in love and remain at the same degree at the start of summer, a real supermoon time. Would anyone else care to continue the story? Carolyn, enjoying the idea of it all. A Wrong Weather Forecast - Pilot Error
Monday, March 2, 2009, 01:49 PM - Techniques
Every so often I have a long range forecast that is completely or even partially wrong, yet impactingly wrong. Keep in mind that I am one person developing forecasts for a whole season at a time - that is 13 weeks of weather information!

Mostly I am happy with my results or I wouldn't be able to continue in my quest to have long range weather forecasting be known as a viable alternative or addition to the meteorological model.

Here in New England my forecast for the period of February 24th to March 3rd, 2009 my forecast was for a cold and dry week with strong winds. We have the cold and the winds but we also have many inches of snow (hyped to breaking news by the media - in my younger years this was a typical winter storm). The media is not wrong, but, in my youth, this snowfall was a regular occurance - we didn't have the media to tell us just how bad everything was!

It was definitely pilot error in missing forcasting the storm so here's the astrology of it all, or actually the cycle of it all. It has to do with the planet Venus. Venus has a repeat cycle of 8 yrs for one thing and she also has a retrograde period to talk about. The retrograde period is what is happening here today even though we can go back in time 8 yrs at a time and find good results for similar storms in various locales.

At the retrograde approach, the astrologer or astrometeorologist observes the planet Venus as slowing down in her travel along the ecliptic. The slowing down means that Venus is more or less 'in your face' for a period of days, intensifying the influence she makes in general.

For weather, Venus is a planet that has an influence of moisture or more commonly, rain. Depending on the season it can be warm or tropical rain or in winter, the moisture can take many forms from cold rain to sleet to ice to snow or hail. FYI, the Moon is the most wet influence.

For southern New England, the planet Venus was not only angular in the new Moon model, it was affecting the 4th house of major weather influence. I completely overlooked Venus's impact on this weeks weather. So it goes..... Solution? We need more weather astrologers.

Tornados and Hurricanes 2009
Saturday, February 28, 2009, 08:23 AM
Since the first of the year, 2009, I've been working on the spring weather forecast and the 6 month 2009 hurricane forecast, as well as completing a 2 year study on earthquakes for a particular location.

The information from all the studies is rather awesome considering the times in which we are now living. If you thought last year was interesting, then you already know that 2009 is going to be even more jaw-dropping!

There are many people who still think 'it can't happen to me', well, more people will be devastated this year by weather disasters than by other losses. The areas that will be affected will include Tornado Alley for one. It will be a more than average season for storms.

On a flight to a vacation spot in January, I worked on the hurricane charts and got as far as August 2009. The hurricane season begins June 1st and lasts for six months. With certain planets in place even before June 1st, there are indications of tropical storms brewing in the Gulf, perhaps on the east coast as well. In all my years, I haven't seen these planet combinations in just one season.

The hurricane report should be ready by March 20th, about the time when the spring long range weather report is posted. I'll write more about the spring weather on another day.

ISRAEL, Transits, Declination, Fixed Stars and Weather
Sunday, December 28, 2008, 04:06 AM

The State of Israel is in the news once again as rockets are exchanged with Gaza. Noel Tyl has used a 4pm May 14, 1948 chart in Tel Aviv for many, many years. With due respect to Noel Tyl, I offer no conclusions, just my views on the current chart issues without having read any other forecasts.

Transits: The Sun at 23 degrees of Taurus is under the dissolving influence of transiting Neptune. Watching Neptune transit many charts of Taurus Sun individuals leads me to think that Israel’s national health will be an issue - depressed, polluted or extremely challenged in the nature of their being.

The Sun rules over the Moon, Pluto, Saturn and Mars, all in the sign Leo, almost half of the planets in the chart. The intense war like grouping of the Leo planets demands attention and respect. Israel will defend itself as the square from Mars to the Sun implies. Impatient, assertive or aggressive are keywords for this configuration.

By early spring 2009, Uranus will square natal Uranus bringing an unexpected shift in their philosophy. Natal Uranus, ruler of the 5th house of tourism, should prepare for a loss in this area. Issues around monies show up with the declination cycle. Transiting Saturn is currently in the 11th house of friends, perhaps limiting help and support from others in this globally finance challenged world today.

Transiting Pluto in the 3rd house of neighbors slowly applies to an opposition to Venus, inducing the ruler of the ascendant to more peace negotiations over trouble at the border. Pluto will also quincunx the Moon, the people, who will be called upon to make adjustment after adjustment.

In the spring of 2010, transiting Neptune will oppose Mars, ruler of the money and income in house 2.

Declination - the progressed declination graph
Israel has a record number of planets that are out of bounds (OOB), a term created by the late Kt Boehrer. The nature of the planets remains the same but the actions are beyond normal expectations. Venus, Moon, Mercury, Uranus and Pluto. Will the exceptional behavior of these declination position planets be a gift or a curse?

In the progressed cycle of the Moon, she is currently headed towards a southern maximum position, usually a time when monies should be carefully guarded and to expect some loss, depending on the strength of the transits. The midheaven declination position is currently in aspect to Neptune. Israel's reputation and standing in the world is not seen clearly as they are being cautioned by the international community, not their attackers.

Fixed Stars - From Bernadette Brady's Starlight Program
Today, Dec. 28, 2008, the stars that are on angles are Altair - The lifestyle of the warrior class, bold and independent. Also, Spica - Bring very talented, having a gift that can bring joy to others.

At birth, rising with the Sun is Al Rescha, A person (country) able to bring ideas and/or people together. Setting with the Sun Zuben Elgenubi - To spend one's life trying to improve the quality of life for all.

Israel is still in it's youth, working with these stars. Diadem - Appeasement, a person (country) which can make compromises. El Nath - To take physical action even in the face of strong opposition.

Facies - Anger at injustices, seeking a different order. Bellatrix - the rogue, the creative person (country) who works in alternative fields. Antares - Mental obsession with a subject or a person (country). Alcyone - The ruthless visionary, a passionate and arrogant person (country).

The list of fixed stars for a country born on this day is unusually long. The remaining list of stars can be seen by plugging in the birth date at http://www.zyntara.com/ What are the fixed stars influence for Israel's prime?

Weather terms to describe Israel's infused foundation.
In weather, the 4th house planets and cusp are given in depth attention. About half of the foundation for Israel is based on the sign Capricorn, cold and dry. The ruler, Saturn is conjunct Pluto for a very cold intensity, power and strength in dry Leo.

The ascendant and planets in the 1st house are looked at for at least a quarter influence on environment and relationships. With a Libra rising, balance, peace and fairness should be the mainstay. The ruler, Venus in Cancer in the 9th house gives the idea of the country having a religious emphasis and the higher mind and education comes into play. Libra is cool and dry and Venus is a wet planet (emotions) doubly so in the wet sign of Cancer. Wet Venus is square to peculiar weather Neptune, increasing the chance of pollution or distortion of intent.
