Baby Steps for the Meteorologists
Monday, March 9, 2009, 08:38 AM - Forecasts
Michael Reilly (Discovery Channel) writes an article about the strength of hurricanes and the lunar cycle impact. Researcher sees a trend in Atlantic storms; mixing tides could be factor. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29530066/ for the rest of this incredible story!
The results of the researchers may change the way we look at weather. The story basically says that the Moon could influence the weather. I can't help but be impressed with the discovery; what a wakeup call for the meteorologists to have discovered that phenomenon. Also in the article that the Moon's spooky influence on earth is legendary but the phenomena attributed to the Moon are almost exclusively superstition. It makes me smile, actually laugh, to see the baby steps the researchers are taking and the incredible CYA sidestepping going on. What do you think?
The article goes on to show an easy way to see if the Moon is really influencing hurricanes. That would be to look at the hurricane data from 1878-1950! A good idea but flawed because of the dates included.
The reality check for the information found between 1878-1950 - before computers and any kind of accurate accumulated data for those years is easy to understand. The researchers results would be fraught with error because of incomplete data from anytime before 1900. Beginning a study with data from 1900 can be chancy.
I will credit the scientists and meteorologists for providing good statistical data for modern times. One excellent location is
here: http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/index.html
In fact, four years ago I performed my own study from this data gathering information on the Moon's influence on hurricane totals north or south of the equator. I wanted to know if the storm totals increased at these times of high declination degrees. I think the results are interesting but not conclusive - there is a tendency for increase but it is not consistent. Keep in mind that we do not have hundreds of years of hurricane data.

If you are interested in more detail, you can examine the spreadsheet on my website http://weathersage.com/resources/index.htm
When there, please click on Hurricanes (Excel spreadsheet).

The objective for my study was to find out if the number of hurricanes increased significantly when the Moon was in high declination degrees. The Moon can reach almost 29 degrees of declination north and south in its cycle. And...the air tides are carried further north and south over the earth when the Moon is in the higher degrees. Air tides mixing - you bet!

Astrometeorologists (I'm one of them) are far beyond baby steps in using the Moon as a weather influence. We have been developing long range forecasts for hundreds of years with the understanding that the Moon controls a good part of our weather. Ourforecasts are not for 5 or 10 days into the future but more like 5 months or 5 years. Don't be fooled when the TV weather person says something like 'and now for your long range forecast, or some say futurecast'. Yet, it's a good thing they are taking baby steps...isn't it?

Voluptuous Venus
Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 08:09 AM - Forecasts
After viewing lots and lots of charts for the next few years I was inspired to write something more interesting about weather conditions. The beautiful planet Venus - she sparkles in the sky like a diamond reminding us of other worldly energy. Venus is with Mars in a very close and personal way this spring. Here is a short story about their attraction to each other. I hope you enjoy reading it.

It begins.... It's been a sublime adventure watching Venus chase Mars in the Aries ingress season charts. She spotted Mars quite some time ago in the relationship and beautiful sign Libra in early September 2008 and she may have taken notice then but continued on her way outpacing him by a sign or two until now, the mating season, up above the equator. Perhaps she is assessing her position and her desires as she begins to slow her advancement by small amounts until she stops March 6th 2009 in Mars' sign Aries, perhaps looks back and thinks about taking a much closer look.
Venus meanders along the path to the sign Pisces, perhaps mesmerized in that sign while she parks herself there for two weeks at 29 degrees. What could be going on with a Venus in Pisces for that length of time? When she comes out of her delusionary, yearning to merge period and regains her fiestiness in Aries, she begins to pursue Mars with a vigorous intent. Does Mars stand still and let himself be caught? Oh, no....Mars in Aries now in late April has more work to do, he is on a quest, a mission to heat up the place and is moving quickly. Venus chases and chases but can't quite get up to his speed. What to do...What to do. Huffing and puffing Venus regains her normal speed after the slowdown in Pisces and puts on her Nike's (tennis shoes) and gains even more strength as she enters her home arena in Taurus to lure Mars, now in the same sign. into a Taurean conjoining finally! in June at the powerful 15 degrees of fixed signs.

Is Venus pregnant with much rain for northern summertime? Does this tale have anything to do with headline news or even our own private lives? By the way, the pair are in love and remain at the same degree at the start of summer, a real supermoon time. Would anyone else care to continue the story? Carolyn, enjoying the idea of it all. Quakes and More Quakes
Saturday, December 20, 2008, 05:16 AM - Forecasts
On December 18, 2008, Chile experienced a 6.3 quake, a decent magnitude quake, but if one is not following earquakes, then it wouldn't mean very much. However, years ago, after reading Diana Rosenberg's awesome story on the Lisbon quake in the 1700s, I learned that many quakes have a connection to a quake on the other side of the world. The quakes would occur within a short time, perhaps a few days of each other. If push comes to shove when observing the plates moving, then it makes sense that displacement in one part of the world affects the other side of the world.

Today, December 20, 2008, Japan experienced a 6.5 quake. In Chile,
the aftershocks continued on December 19th sending 7 more tremors or shocks of 4.2 to 5.9 magnitude. That is a whole lot of shaking! It follows that Japan may have aftershocks as well.

Chile is a location that has an earthquake climate (weather term). It is a location that is noted for the highest magnitude quake, a 9.6 back in 1960 ever recorded. The tsunami quake event in Banda Aceh a few years ago may have equaled or topped it however.

The quake in Chile was predictable using long range weather techniques. In an extensive study of earthquakes since the summer of 2008, a prepared forecast included the week of December 12, 2008, a full Moon period, for the time of a more than average earthquake experience. The next period, December 19th, a quarter Moon would also carry the signature of more tremors or aftershocks.

The study is ongoing and one accurate forecast is good, but consistency is better. It would be a hoot! to be able to crack Mother Nature's code.

The Historical Hurricane of Independence
Saturday, December 6, 2008, 09:30 AM - Forecasts
HISTORICAL HURRICANE OF INDEPENDENCE
The general information found in the internet is about a storm that formed August 29, 1775 and moved off September 9, 1775 and had affected from the Outer Banks up to Newfoundland. Entries from historical files reveal that Norfolk, VA lost many ships and there were many deaths associated with the storm.

A new Moon chart for August 26, 1775, 0:03:47 am LMT in Norfolk, VA reveals a new Moon at the 4th house cusp, a house that covers about one half of the weather. The new Moon was applying to a square to Uranus, the planet of disruption and extreme changes in temperature. Inside the 4th house is Neptune which provides peculiar weather from mists to floods. Neptune is square to the local ascendant, Gemini. Gemini and its ruling planet Mercury control the winds. Mercury rules both the 1st and 4th house cusps giving about 75% of the forecast. The Moon applies to the local 4th cusp, then to a conjunction with Neptune – all of these facts from the chart easily describe and add up to what was to become the Hurricane of Independence.

While the hurricane doesn’t relate to the 2008 winter, it does show violent weather at the time of the American Revolution. Tony Williams has just published (August 2008) a book with the title, Hurricane of Independence: The Untold Story of the Deadly Storm at the Deciding Moment of the American Revolution. Is it mere coincidence that his book review is on BOOKTV at the very moment I am writing this blog?

Williams writes that the storm is the 8th deadliest Atlantic hurricane of all time, killing more than 4,000 people. All this in an era where hurricanes were viewed as omens from God. Though the storm was devastating along the east coast up through New Foundland, the revolution continued and America grew to be a great power, a super power.

We are a young country compared to much of the western world and to Asia and the young make mistakes. The current crises of our finances is evidence that lessons are to be learned and indeed they will be learned and many will suffer while learning. How long will it take to learn the lessons.

Some assure that it will be a matter of less than a year, yet the astrology of the coming years has a very different approach, one that will take until 2015-17 to reach any stabilization. The pockets of greed and the mismanagement of the taxpayer’s monies will take a long time to unravel and regroup.

The crises, the changes which so many wanted are in play. The dominoes began to fall with Lehman Brothers collapsing or was it Enron and those kinds of gangs? Well, the time has come to explore what it is like to have an outer planet that tends to transform what it touches looked at with more respect.

Pluto, you say! A planet so small and so far away, how could that possibly transform anything.
If you study astrology (western tropical style) then you would be able to answer the question.

For many years prior to the war for independence, in the early 1700s, Pluto entered the zodiac sign of Capricorn and brought a change to the culture and the seeds of revolution were planted. More of that story can be found here http://schillerinstitute.com/fid_02-06/ ... e_rev.html

Some years later, there came the opening square between Uranus and Pluto and you know the rest of the story. What is truly significant is that there were seven – seven exact hits with the opening square. Even more significant is that history may repeat itself in its agony of recession when we, around the globe, but especially in the USA experience the same seven – seven hits from Uranus and Pluto beginning in 2009 and last for many years. The rest of the story with dates and timeline in found in the article here: http://weathersage.com/articles/index.htm The title is Radical and Intense, the New World Order.

Vestiges of Pluto in Sagittarius
Thursday, November 27, 2008, 10:00 AM - Forecasts
The new Moon in Sagittarius is applying in about two hours. I wake up to CNN news of a terrorist attack in Mumbai, India. Immediately I look to where Pluto is located and found that the planet had migrated from the last degree of Sagittarius to zero degrees of Capricorn, Saturn's sign to also not return to Sagittarius during our lifetimes.

The attack is a horror show for those people who were Americans or British subjects. The cowardly attacks began at the dark of the Moon. Could it be the last vestiges of the holy war that has been raging so very identified with Pluto in Sagittarius? Let it be so I beg.

What can Pluto now in Saturn's sign Capricorn bring to the daily table?

As a Capricorn rising individual with Saturn square to my ascendant, I deal with Capricorn and Saturn issues all the time. Reality has been a theme in my life as far back as I can remember. It is a tough theme, demanding, clear, reality-ridden and ambitious. As a person well past middle-age, I can say that I am grateful for the disciplined life I've led - a happy life.

Can the rest of humanity deal with the realities we will experience under Pluto in Capricorn? There may not be a choice for those who have reveled in the excesses of Pluto in Sagittarius. The denial of the pleasures the God-like Jupitarians have allowed may come crashing down with the patriarchal new order of regulation, control, authority and punishment which severe Saturn will impose.

I'm reminded of a scene out of the movie Dr. Zhivago when the war was over and the kindly doctor returned home to his mansion only to find many families living there and his own family relegated to one room. A rather rude awakening of how things had 'changed'. How will life be in our new and changing world?

During the Russian Revolution during the time of World War I, Pluto had just entered the opposite (Cardinal!) sign of Cancer. Neptune was in the opposite sign of Leo and Uranus was in Aquarius. Saturn at the time was in the same cardinal sign Cancer, a double rude awakening to a new way to live. Cardinal signs are required to take action, to initiate and move on. The cardinal sign of Capricorn is the highest of the four cardinal signs and I think has more power than the earlier signs. Can you feel it...I think you can.

Thanks for reading random thoughts on the approach to the New Moon at 5:49 degrees Sagittarius - celebrate while you can.
