Grumble, grumble, late spring
Thursday, May 12, 2005, 11:26 AM - Musings
I'm usually so busy working on weather related stuff that I am not affected by the weather outside my window. It's true that the spring color outside my window was very late but, last night dinner guests were expected for 6pm. It would have been lovely to sit on the west deck and enjoy the Sun about to set, but no----that May 8-15th forecast was correct and it was the strong wind that kept us inside. Bah! My sympathies to those who are affected by this cold spring more often than I.

Wet weekends
Saturday, May 7, 2005, 02:08 PM - Forecasts
Saturday, May 7, 2005 with rain and strong gusts. This is the 3rd weekend where the weather has been less than favorable here in Rhode Island, in fact, it has been downright awful.

My forecasts were for rainy weather and this weekend especially the strong wind event, but the brides were hoping for something else. Next weekend I look forward to high pressure and a better day for the brides. However, it is a quarter Moon for Sunday the 16th and the rough weather could come in early - let's hope it doesn't.

Only as good as your last forecast..
Wednesday, May 4, 2005, 08:53 AM - Musings
The birthday party for the 2yr old was to be held out of doors at noon on Sunday, May 1st. The tv forecasters on Friday said the rain would clear out by noon on Sunday. On Saturday, their forecast was the same. Sunday morning their forecast changed to clearing around 3pm....try 5pm.

I had mentioned to the Dad that Sunday was going to be wet but since I was only partially accurate for the family wedding date April 23rd, he proceeded to set up for outside. I would rather have been wrong because the back yard is so beautiful right now with a weeping cherry tree in full 'pink' bloom, however, a good time was had by all, indoors.

On another note - this southern New England (accurately predicted) chilly spring is becomming more and more annoying. Yet we have more unstable temps with only a few heat spikes to look forward to in May.

Full Moon April 24, 2005
Friday, April 22, 2005, 09:29 AM - Musings
The wedding day is tomorrow evening, April 23rd. Last year the bride was trying to select a good weather weekend anywhere from April to October. After much searching for a reception site, the bride decided on the weekend of April 23-24. I advised her that she might have a clear day on Saturday but not Sunday - neverthemind, the site for the wedding was wonderful and the ceremony could be held out of doors or inside.

For the past 10 days I have been looking at weather.com and accuweather to compare forecasts. Both websites changed their 10 day outlook 2 or 3 times. My forecast cannot change and has been up on my website for over a month and actually prepared in January 05.

Their forecast, plus the local RI mets had 2" of rain forecast a few days ago and this afternoon the rain, if any, is diminished greatly - to showers and windy conditions. Tomorrow we will know.

Hurricane Season 2005
Sunday, April 17, 2005, 09:02 AM - Forecasts
The preliminary forecast is on the website and will be added to when a section is completed.

I have been searching the web for information on the Hurricane Conference in the Bahamas but can't find a thing.

With all the resources the NWS has, their report includes statistical data only on the number of storms that might occur during the season. What good does that do? Maybe it helps with the sales of candles and related equipment...

Over the years I have had quite a bit of success in describing the fierce storms; just last year I wrote that Florida was in the spyglass with August being a stormy month for them. Two of their 4 storms struck in August. I described many of the storms in the 2004 season for the targeted coasts. Check out my 2005 report and compare with the National Weather Service offerings - remember just how much equipment and monetory support they have and remember that I am one person developing a free report for everyone. Their educated guess is just that - a guess. My report is based on natural cycles that don't come through a computer.
